Christmas

The Alley of Eternal Christmas is now aglow

At dusk, the main square of Chignahuapan lights up with the Callejón de la Eterna Navidad (Alley of Eternal Christmas): a passage of arches with half a million lights and 10,000 Christmas ornaments.

It was inaugurated by the municipal government of Chignahuapan in August 2026. It aims to highlight the creativity and hard work of the families who make Christmas ornaments, the craft that made the town famous.

Despite its name, it is not a street: it is right in the center, on the zócalo, the main square. There is no fixed time to see it lit; the lights come on at dusk, so it is best to arrive as the afternoon fades.

Under the arches, among red bows, garlands and red and gold ornaments, hang wooden ornaments with wishes written on them, such as “Salud y prosperidad” (health and prosperity) or “Estabilidad y amor” (stability and love).

Make the most of your visit to stroll around the center and take home ornaments made in Chignahuapan. And save the date: the 2026 Christmas season kicks off on October 24 with the Lighting of the Tree and Monumental Ornament.
