October 24 · Lighting of the Tree and Monumental Ornament. The monumental tree and the giant ornament light up on the main square: it is the start of Christmas in town.
October 30 to November 2 · Festival of Light and Life. The Day of the Dead comes alive at the lagoon, with floating offerings and catrinas.
November 20 to 29 · International Tree and Ornament Fair. The celebration of the Christmas ornament that made Chignahuapan famous, at its most splendid.
More than 1.5 million visitors are expected this season: if you plan to come, book your lodging well in advance.
And you don't have to wait until October: the Alley of Eternal Christmas is already shining on the zócalo, and its lights come on at dusk.
